Amazing Race Party -14yr- Wheelbarrow Race

When planning my daughters 14th birthday, I wanted them to have fun and something that they would talk about for a long time. So I wanted to do the Amazing Race game from our favorite show. I didn't have enough drivers to take them all over the place. I just did it for our neighborhood. 

INVITATIONS: This was a surprise party, and I didn't want anyone to know what we were doing so I typed up a surprise invite and had one of her friends help me pass them out to all her friends.

DECORATIONS: We decorated with streamers and balloons and I made flags out of paper and posted them on the persons house that they would be going to, so they would know that they had the right house. And made all the Clue cards with DETOURS, ROADBLOCKS & U-TURNS.  COSTUMES: I bought solid color bandana's from Hobby Lobby 2 of each color and I had them choose the color they wanted, and after everyone had the color. I told them whoever was wearing the same color was their team member & explained the game.

PARTY SNACKS: We had 3' Sandwiches, chips and Drinks CAKE: We had Ice Cream Sundaes FAVORS: PRIZES for the Winners, and treats for everyone, they were able to keep their bandana's

ACTIVITY & GAMES: ALL THE CLUES WERE TYPED 3 UP ON A 8.5 X 11 AND CUT INTO THIRDS TO FIT INTO A #10 WHITE ENVELOPE THAT I PRINTED ON THE FRONT 'THE AMAZING RACE'  Here is the details of all the clue's. 

Clue #1 This game is to see who can OUT WIT, OUT LAST & OUT PARTY! To start this RACE you must go see _______ for your first task. Rules for task #1 * You must do this puzzle with your teammate. * Don't consult other teams * When you are finished, make your way to _______ to check your answers and to receive your next clue. The RACE is ON!!! THE PUZZLE WAS A CROSSWORD WHICH YOU CAN GET FREE ON THE INTERNET. I CAME UP WITH QUESTIONS ABOUT MY DAUGHTER THAT THEY MIGHT NOT KNOW.

AFTER THEY FINISHED I GAVE THEM CLUE #2 WOW! You finished fast! Now let's roam the neighborhood Go to this address ______ You must do the wheelbarrow race across the front yard 4 times. With each of you taking a turn twice. When you have completed this you will be given your next clue. How to do the Wheelbarrow race: If you are the wheelbarrow you must get on your belly and your partner will lift up your legs, you will use your arms to move you across the front yard. If you are the driver, lift up the wheelbarrows legs and push forward. This will take some strength DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES?

WHEN THEY FINISHED THEY WERE GIVEN Clue #3 WHAT STRENGTH YOU HAVE Go to this address ______ CAUTION: DETOUR AHEAD You must choose one now SHOOT OR ROLL After you have finished your task you will receive your next clue. THEN ON ANOTHER CARD THEY HAD WHAT TASK THOSE INTALED WHICH READ Instructions for task chosen: Shoot You must both play Basketball You each must do the following: One lay-up, One free throw,One 3 point shot Roll You must BOTH roll One of you must get inside the Giga Ball and roll your team member across the yard and then switch partners, and roll back across.

THEN THEY RECEIVED Clue #4 SUPER Now lets see are you good with KEYS? Go to this address  ______ ONLY ONE OF  You must look thru the box to find the corresponding key that matches the lock that is your team colors clue. When you have completed this you will be given your next clue. The Clue must not be ripped off and you need to bring the lock and key to the finish line with you!

I PUT THE CLUE FROM THE #10 ENVELOPE INSIDE A MANILLA ENVELOPE WITH THEIR TEAM COLOR WRITTEN ON IT AND PUT IT IN A ZIPLOCK BAG AND ATTACHED IT TO THE LOCK AND PUT IT ON A HANGER ONTO A LADDER. I WENT TO A LOCAL KEY SHOP AND THEY GAVE ME A HANDFUL OF RECYCLED KEYS AND THREW THEM IN A BOWL WITH THE REAL KEYS THEY HAD TO SEARCH THROUGH INSIDE THE BAG WAS Clue #5 HUNGRY? Go to this address: ______ WARNING: ROADBLOCK ONE OF YOU will need to eat the whole jar of food. When you are finished you will be given your next clue. The other teammate can cheer you on! THIS WAS THE WORST ONE I BOUGHT BABY FOOD, NOT THE FRUIT IT WAS THE MEAL ONES CHICKEN & RICE ETC THOSE GIRLS WERE GAGING AND TRYING NOT TO THROW UP. THAT WAS THE BEST.

NEXT THEY GOT Clue #6 WATER! Go to this address: _______ Find your way to the address and you must BOTH participate. You must use the syringe to move the water to the line on the jar. When you have completed the task you may receive your next clue. I WENT TO THE PHARMACY AND PURCHASED 10 SYRINGES 10 ML ONES AND THEY HAD TO FILL A PLASTIC CUP TO THE TOP, TO MY SURPRISE THE NEIGHBOR PUT THE CUP IN THE FRONT YARD AND THE WATER AND SYRINGES IN THE BACKYARD AND MADE THEM RUN MANY TIMES BACK AND FORTH. IT WAS GREAT!

THEY THEN RECEIVED Clue #7 U-TURN Go back to this address: ______ Find your way back to the address you did the DETOUR and you must BOTH participate again You must do the other Detour task that you didn't do previously. Either SHOOT or ROLL You have the option of choosing another task also. You must count how many stones are in the stone pathway to the front and side of the house. From the front door, to the side of the fence. When you have counted, tell the girl the number and get it right and you may receive your next clue.

THEY THEN RECEIVED THE LAST CLUE Clue #8 Race to the Finish Line Go back to this address: _____ Find your way to the Finish line. You must have the clues and Lock and key with you when you cross the line.

CONGRATULATIONS YOU HAVE FINISHED! WHAT A RACE  IT WAS A LOT OF FUN AND THANKS TO NEIGHBORS WE PULLED IT OFF.   ON THE DETOUR, ROADBLOCK AND U-TURN CARDS I HAD A COLORED CARD TO EXPLAIN WHAT EACH OF THOSE WERE WITH THE CLUE HERE ARE THE DEFINATIONS I USED:  A Detour is a choice between two tasks, each with it's own pros and cons. Teams must successfully complete one of the tasks in order to receive their next clue.Some tasks may look harder, but teams that do them well may finish them quickly. There is no penalty if a team decides to change tasks part way through. If you get a detour card, you only have to complete one of the tasks on it. 

A Roadblock is a task that only one person from the team may perform. You have a limit of how many roadblocks a person can perform and that is one for each person on your team. Which means if another roadblock comes up on the race the other team member must perform it.  A U-turn is a task that you have to go back to the previous Detour and do the other task on the card that you didn't do.So go back to the place where you did the Detour and choose the other task, you must complete to receive your next clue.
